Young dancer to compete at world championships
She was selected as part of the top 6 female dancers who would represent SA in July in the United States
YOLENE Exley will soon become a dance superstar when she sets off for the USA in July.
This grade 6 Laerskool Impala pupil has been chosen to represent South Africa at the World Dance Championships in Miami, Florida.
“Yolene qualified to participate in the South African Championships in October 2014, where she received gold and high silver medals. She was also in the top six female dancers of the competition,” her mother, Yolande, said.
The petite Birchleigh resident started dancing in nursery school and performs various forms of dance, including hip-hop, freestyle, disco, jazz and even takes part in group dancing – clearly showing the extent of her talent. She also started contemporary dance last year.
Yolene has also participated in many competitions in the country, making sure she competes every year.
In 2014 she competed in the D.A.N.C.E Awards Festival in Pretoria, Dance Masters Association of South Africa and ADA SA Champs. Every year she does these competitions. She has done very well this year, receiving mostly gold and high silver medals. She was sixth overall in her age group competing in the ADA SA Champs.
And this little girl’s dreams don’t just end at performing for audiences in the United States. She plans on taking over international dance stages too.
“My dream is to one day go to Hollywood and study dancing abroad because there are many opportunities that side,” says Exley.
But in order to achieve her dreams, Exley needs sponsorship to be able to attend and compete at the world championships as the costs amount to thousands of rands, which the family can’t afford.
Any sponsorship will be appreciated. People who can help can contact Yolande on 082-559-8117.
