Councillor assists local crèche
DA councillor, Clr Ruth Shabalala, donated toys to a needy crèche and pre-school in Essellen Park recently.
Clr Shabalala, who is on the oversight committee of roads and storm water for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), said she discovered the newly-formed crèche when she received a complaint about a leaking pipe in Essellen Park.
“The owner of the crèche appealed for any kind of donation from me. I was touched and thought of what could make the children’s stay more comfortable at the crèche. I asked for sponsorships from the Department of Social Development and the Lotto,” she said.
Clr Shabalala said the donation was an experience she would remember for the rest of her life.
“I am excited to have seen the smiles on the faces of the children. I wish other people could stand up and do something to help the needy. It is a way of alleviating poverty and crime,” she said.
The principal of the crèche and pre-school, Ms Thembi Moolisa, said she appreciated how Clr Shabalala responded to her appeal.
“I wish we had many people like her who listened to others and took them into consideration. I am really happy with the donation and the children are happy as well. I thank God for bringing people like Clr Shabalala into our lives,” she said.
