Dead give-away: carrying a stolen TV on your shoulder

The owners of the house are away on holiday in London

CARRYING a flat screen television set on your shoulder down the road, is not a good idea.

Two burglars found this out the hard way when they were arrested on Van Riebeeck Road on Monday afternoon.

PHS COPS arrested the two after the break-in at a house on Aloe Street.

The burglars, apparently from Tembisa, entered the front yard by climbing over the palisades and breaking a window with a brick. One of the men cut his finger tips on the broken glass and left a trail of blood in the bedrooms.

The TV was taken, as well as shoes, coins, costume jewellery, a Samsung phone and numerous small items.

“We got an anonymous call from a woman who spotted the two suspicious men walking down Van Riebeeck Road with the goods,” said Carl Buys, arresting officer for PHS COPS.

Buys and his associate, Anthony Rossi, reacted and caught the thieves.

“We asked them where they got the goods but they did not want to say anything. They later said they broke into a house down the road and showed us where. Carl called the police and the owners’ son,” said Rossi.

The owners, Pam and Nigel Bailey, are away on holiday in London. Their son, Darren Govender, came out to claim the stolen goods.

Govender wants to thank PHS COPS for their fast response and is very thankful for getting the stolen goods back.
