High school learner nabbed with drugs

Parents are urged to check their children's school bags

A 19-year-old schoolboy was arrested on Thursday just after 1pm by the Norkem Park Crime Prevention Unit members on Strydom Street, Birchleigh North, for possession of dagga.

According to Kempton Park police spokesman Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the teenager was arrested during a stop-and-search in the area.

“On Strydom Street, the unit members approached a group of schoolboys, and one of the boys tried walking away from the group. Police stopped him and upon searching him, found in his possession a container with dagga in it,” explained Molokomme.

Molokomme said the dagga was in small plastic bags.

“The suspect is a student at one of the schools around Norkem Park and was arrested for possession of dagga weighing 35g with a street value of R2600,” explained Molokomme.

It is suspected he might be selling the dagga to other learners.

“We are appealing to parents at all times to inspect their kid’s school bags to avoid such incidents,” added Molokomme.
