Winter drive for underprivileged girls
Goods collected to be distributed include sanitary pads, jerseys, face cloths and toiletries
THE Sue Nkosi Foundation (SNF) held a winter drive to collect sanitary pads and other goods for underprivileged girls and hosted a brunch for sponsors at Ha Moloi on Kempton Road in May.
Since its inception in August last year, SNF has been donating sanitary pads and other basic necessities to Mayibuye Primary School in Tembisa on a monthly basis.
The foundation is still struggling with funding but friends, colleagues, family and interested parties on social media have been assisting with donating sanitary pads and/or money.
Founder of the foundation, Sue Ally-Nkosi, said its focus was on empowering disadvantaged women and young girls and she was happy with the participation of the community in the initiative.
“The response received was amazing and it’s very humbling that SNF has grown to have so many supporters,” she said.
Guests and contributors who attended the brunch were treated to inspirational and motivational talks on a number of topics. Topics included financial matters by Shomang, autism awareness by Sooraya Jooma, Lupus awareness by Najib Salim, and mentorship by Jeremiah Mogapi.
Palesa Chemane spoke on xenophobia and her struggle to achieve success, and author Mosweu Tsepetsi talked about her book and rape survival.
Bongani Masina from the Kempton Park ANC office also attended the event, and Bukelwa Mzamo, a teacher at Mayibuye Primary School, thanked the foundation.
Ally-Nkosi said all goods collected would be distributed to the girls during winter.
Goods include sanitary pads, jerseys, face cloths, Vaseline, lotion, roll-on deodorants, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
“SNF supplies these goods to the girls, as well as hosts motivational talks, career guidance and life skills to the girls, and to thank the contributors, get-togethers that benefit them are also held. Our next function will be on Mandela Day and all details will be communicated on our Facebook page called Sue Nkosi Foundation, ” she said.
