Body of unidentified woman recovered from Kempton Park spruit

According to police the woman, believed to be about 30 years old, was found naked with no visible injuries.

The body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a spruit in Kempton Park on Thursday morning, September 10.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Water Police were called to the scene near Voortrekker Road, at the R21 highway crossing, at about 10:20.

According to Warrant Officer Frans Spang, media liaison officer for Police Emergency Services, officers were directed to a body in the water when they arrived.

The Water Police dive team, comprising Warrant Officers Martin Bann and Coenie van Rooyen, recovered the body.

Police said the woman, believed to be about 30 years old, was found naked with no visible injuries.

Members of the Local Criminal Record Centre attended the scene to conduct investigations.

An inquest docket has been opened and investigations are continuing.

Safety warning issued

Police have also urged members of the public to exercise caution around rivers and spruits.

People crossing rivers are advised to use designated bridges, as strong currents can sweep people away.

Police further warned people participating in baptism rituals in rivers to be aware of the associated risks, including the possibility of exposure to sewage and chemicals in Gauteng’s waterways, as well as the danger of being swept away by strong currents.
