Tembisa Hospital nurse assaulted by patient’s relatives
According to National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (NEHAWU) media liaison officer Sizwe Pamla the nurse was allegedly assaulted for poor treatment of a patient.
A Tembisa Hospital nurse was assaulted by relatives of a patient yesterday July 30.
According to National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) media liaison officer Sizwe Pamla the nurse was allegedly assaulted for poor treatment of a patient.
“We condemn this barbaric act of cowardice and call on the law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute these cowardly thugs. South Africa is a nation of laws and these criminals should be held accountable”, said Mr Pamla.
“This shows that our health facilities are vulnerable and are not at all protected by the department.
Talking to the The Tembisan, Mr Pamla said NEHAWU at provincial and regional level has instructed all their structures to gather information to establish as to what really happened.
“We will use that information going forward and in deciding what should be done”, he said.
“NEHAWU has raised the issue of lax security in hospitals for a long time and we feel that the responsible authorities do not care. If this issue of security is not resolved, our union will consider a go slow and a possible shutdown of the Gauteng department of Health”, said Mr Sizwe Pamla.
