Mayor condemns taxi violence

"That we have lost one person and three others are injured as a result of the violence is a cause of great concern."

The executive mayor of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), Clr Mondli Gungubele, has condemned the ongoing taxi violence in Tembisa.

Clr Gungubele has appealed to the feuding parties to sit around a table and resolve their issues peacefully.

“That we have lost one person and three others are injured as a result of the violence is a cause of great concern. It cannot be that when people disagree about something, they then turn to the barrel of a gun for a solution. When such happens, innocent people are injured, families lose bread winners and children lose their parents,” he said.

Clr Gungubele commended the SAPS for its swift reaction, which resulted in the arrest of five suspects in connection with the taxi violence in the area.

“Now that we have people behind bars, we shall rely on our courts to ensure that the guilty are effectively dealt with.”
