Six suspects arrested and drugs seized in police operations

The suspects were detained at Etwatwa SAPS while the dagga estimated at a value of around R30 000 and cash were booked in as exhibits.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six suspects and recovered dagga valued at around R70 000 between June 16 and 21.

On the evening of June 19 at around 19:00, members patrolling on Laris Road, next to Phumlani Cemetery, Etwatwa, pulled over a silver/grey Mercedes-Benz.

The two foreign national occupants were immediately arrested when members discovered 15 bags of dagga under a blanket in the boot of the vehicle.

A further charge of bribery was added when one of the suspects bribed members with R1 000.

The suspects were detained at Etwatwa SAPS, while dagga, estimated at around R30 000, and cash were booked in as exhibits.

On June 21, at around 09:00, members patrolling on the R555/Welgedacht Road, Springs, noticed a black Toyota Corolla being towed by another vehicle.

The vehicles were pulled over and during a search, the 32-year-old driver of the Corolla was immediately arrested when six large bags of dagga were found in the boot.

The foreign national was detained at Springs SAPS, and the dagga, valued at around R40 000, was booked in as an exhibit.

Three suspects were arrested for drug-related offences in Casuarina and Pascoe Avenues, Kempton Park. Crystal methamphetamine and Mandrax were recovered in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs and bribery.
