Xolani Pola Nkosi and his partner started the Palace Shoe Wash in 2007. “We would always be sitting at the corner washing our own shoes and an idea came. We asked ourselves, why don’t we wash shoes for the whole community?” said Xolani.
He said when they started it was difficult because people were not sure whether to leave their shoes with them.
“As time went on people got used to bringing their shoes”.
“I brought my shoes because here they wash them nicely and they save us time. This business keeps these boys away from trouble and doing crime” said a customer Lebogang Rabothata.

“The business is now busy, growing and making money,” said the innovative businessman.
Xolani used to work on contract for a company that delivers liquor beverages for big retail stores and hotels.
“When the contract came to an end I had to come back and sit home, doing nothing. It was frustrating,” he said.

Xolani wants to grow the business to include other related services.
Xolani said he wanted to thank his customers for the trust they have in him when leaving their expensive shoes with them.
“Those who have never brought their shoes, must bring them because they are safe with us”.

He said he can also fetch your shoes if you contact him on 074 027 0732.

“To the youth that is not employed I want to say don’t just sit and wait to be hired. Think of a plan, be creative,” said Xolani.
