Local teen starts own non-profit organisation
She uses her own pocket money, however, donations are encouraged
ROSALIA Seloba (17), a local student, has taken it upon herself to start up “Help for the Helpless”, a non-profit organisation (NPO) operating in Kempton Park.
Help for the Helpless aims to provide the homeless with their basic needs such as food, clothes, medical attention and even the opportunity to be reunited with their estranged loved ones whenever possible.

The driving force behind Seloba’s determination to make a difference is her overwhelming sense of sympathy towards those who are less fortunate than most.
“Homeless people are victims of crimes, they suffer from hunger and unknown diseases. They have little access to medical attention and are generally ignored when they seek help,” says Seloba.
She also takes photographs of herself with those she meets on the streets in hopes of leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
“In order to raise awareness I ask homeless people if I can take photographs with them, and usually I am surprised by their cheerfulness, sense of dignity and pride,” she said.
Seloba is currently using her own personal means of income to achieve her organisation’s objectives by giving out food to those who need it, as well as blankets.
Donations, however, are encouraged and appreciated.
