Police officers appear in court for murder

The suspects will appear in court again on September 1 for a formal bail application.

TEN police officers appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates court on Thursday morning for murder.

The officers are accused of allegedly torturing and murdering Khuthazile Mbedu (37) last year December.

They were remanded in custody after their appearance.

“Mbedu was arrested in connection with theft and while on their way to the Tembisa Police Station, it is believed the officers assaulted and tortured the man with a shocking device. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” said Grace Langa, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

According to the Tembisan, the officers were arrested while on duty in Ivory Park.
