10 police officers released on bail

10 accused released on R2 000 bail each.

The Tembisa Magistrate’s Court has released the 10 Tactical Response Team police officers arrested for the alleged torture and murder of Mr Khuthazile Mbedu in Ivory Park, on R2 000 bail each this afternoon.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) media liaison officer, Ms Grace Langa, said the 10 accused are expected to appear again in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on September 10.

“Investigations are complete. It is a matter of them pleading guilty or not in front of the Magistrate,” she said.

The Tembisan previously reported the police officers were arrested while on duty at the Tembisa SAPS on Thursday.

“The man was arrested in connection with theft. While on their way to the Tembisa SAPS, it is believed the officers assaulted and tortured the man with a shocking device. He died of his injuries in hospital,” Mrs Langa said.

According to Ms Langa, the incident took place on December 14 last year.
