37-year-old man was arrested at Ivory Park after a chase with the police yesterday.
It is believed the suspect and his accomplices hijacked a Ford Ranger at a traffic lights in Kaalfontein Extension.
Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, said the suspects used a blue light and ordered the driver to stop.
“They pointed firearms at him and one suspect then drove off in the victim’s car. His accomplices drove off in their getaway car. A look-out was given and the police spotted them on Republic Road in Ivory Park. They chased them to a blocked street in Kaalfontein, Extension 4.
“The suspects exited the vehicle and ran in different directions. The police managed to arrest one of the suspects,” he said.
Captain Ralidzivha said the police recovered two sports bags, three firearms, R5 rifles, ammunition, a model 75 pistol, six channel jamming devices, two police reflective jackets, gloves and cables.
“The suspect faces two cases of possession of unlicensed firearm and a Silverton case and Garsfontein case of hijacking. The two cases are still pending. Two suspects are still at large. The hijacked vehicle was not recovered,” he said.
