Residents urged to reclaim the streets from criminals
“We want the community to know about the crime in the area.”
The Tembisa SAPS invites Winnie Mandela residents to an Imbizo crime awareness campaign, which will be held on September 19.
Captain Manyadza Ralidhivha said the Imbizo will start 10am.
The meeting will take place at the sports grounds behind Winnie Mandela Primary school.
“We want the community to know about the crime in the area,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
He said there’s a problem regarding business robberies in Winnie Mandela, where people smash spaza shops’ walls to gain access. Residential burglary and rape are other concerns.
“There is a man who targets women who stay alone and breaks into their houses. He then takes them out to rape them somewhere else and steals their belongings,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.
Another concern is murder. The Tembisan previously reported on a woman was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her fiance to death.
“The Winnie Mandela area is a problem – assaults and street robberies are also problematic.We appeal to the community to attend the Imbizo. The community must be part of claiming the streets back from criminals,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
