AN Alpha Security officer was nearly shot in the face during a squabble with an unknown male on October 2.
Michael Ramasehla had attempted to search the man after receiving a tip-off at 9.26am on the Edleen Patrollers WhatsApp group about a suspicious person seen in the field behind Klapper Street.

“Upon arrival he found the unknown male walking in De Villiers Street near Edleen Ext 3, towards the P91. He confronted the suspect and started searching him, the suspect then drew a 9mm firearm and pointed it at Ramasehla,” Morné le Grange, general manager of Alpha Security, said.
Instinctively Ramasehla grabbed the man’s hand to point the firearm away from his face. A struggle ensued between the two, during which a shot was fired.
“In the struggle Ramasehla managed to take the firearm away from the suspect, who then fled the scene with Ramasehla running after him,” Le Grange explained. Ramasehla fell during the chase and hurt his knee and arms in the process. The man managed to get away, leaving his gun behind.
Ramasehla recovered the unlicensed firearm and handed it over to Norkem Park SAPS. Police later discovered that all the gun’s serial numbers had been filed off.
Ramasehla was taken to see the doctor and is recovering well.
“Brave men like Ramasehla put their lives on the line every day to protect our community. We as Alpha Security are so thankful that we can send him home to his family with only minor injuries. He is a great asset to Alpha Security. Michael, you are one of our community’s heroes, we salute you,” said Le Grange.
