ZODWA Tshungu was hijacked last Wednesday afternoon around 5pm in Birch Acres and her white Toyota Tazz stolen.
Tshungu’s daughter, Khethiwe (9), was with her in the vehicle at the time.
Tshungu was on her way to pick up her older daughter (18) from the salon where she was getting her hair done for her matric dance.

“I was going down Ambrosia Street when two men, one wearing a blue overall, walked into the middle of the road in front of my car. I didn’t think anything at the time and stopped just before I hit them,” explained Thsungu. “One of the men came to my window with a firearm and yelled at me to get out of the car.”
According to Thsungu the man yelled in Zulu: “Give us the car, we need a car!”
“The second man opened the door where my daughter was sitting and pushed her over the seat towards me. The man with the blue overall threw me out of the car and got in with the other man. My daughter was stuck in the middle of them. I struggled to keep open the door to get my daughter out,” said Tshungu.
The hijackers released Tshungu’s daughter and drove off with the Tazz.
Tshungu’s handbag with her wallet and ID were still in the vehicle as well as her older daughter’s school bag.
“I am not worried about the materialistic belongings but my daughter’s school bag is the big tragedy. She is in matric and exams start soon and all of her study material was in her bag.”
