THREE employees of a courier company have been arrested for stealing jewellery and other goods they were supposed to have transported.
The EMPD was alerted to the suspicious dealings taking place in an undercover parking at Kempton Square last week Wednesday.
“On responding at around 11am, EMPD members pounced on three men found moving boxes full of necklaces and earrings from their vehicle into the “buyer’s” vehicle. All three men were arrested,” Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said.

“The trio led the metro police to the cargo section at the airport where a truck laden with boxes of similar goods was found with one person inside. It emerged that the three employees of UTi were due to transport the cargo of boxes of jewellery to its destination only on Thursday, October 22. The dishonest employees somehow gained entry at their company and moved the truck to the airport where they pilfered two boxes containing an additional 25 smaller boxes each with necklaces and earrings,” Kgasago said.
“The buyer, a Pakistani businessman, was arrested together with the three employees of UTi. Brand new sunglasses and computer hard drives were also found in the vehicle of the Pakistani man.”
All four men, aged between 29 and 52, were charged at Kempton Park Police Station with possession of suspected stolen goods. They appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday, October 23.
