Suspect shot in one of ‘Black Sunday’s’ armed robberies, dies

He had been admitted to Tembisa Hospital after being shot several times in the upper body

A suspect who was shot during one of three armed business robberies on Sunday has died in hospital on Monday night.

Kempton police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, confirmed that he received the phone call informing him of the death early Tuesday morning.

The suspect, who has not been identified but is believed to be a foreign national, was wounded on Sunday night during a shoot-out between his three accomplices and a security guard at the warehouse they robbed.

The four suspects were leaving the company on Maple Road, Pomona, after robbing it of a large amount of goods when the shoot-out ensued.

The man, estimated to be in his 40s, was shot several times in the upper body and had been admitted to Tembisa Hospital under police guard.

In the meanwhile, his three accomplices, aged 38, 41 and 43, are expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
