JOINT crime prevention operations by the metro police and police from October 28-30 resulted in 23 drivers caught on drunken driving charges, 16 undocumented persons locked up, two suspects arrested for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and one on illegally using a gambling machine.
Music equipment was also confiscated from three places and 363 cases of beer seized, said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman.

Ten drivers were apprehended for drunk driving at the corner of Pretoria Road and Commissioner Street in Kempton Park CBD from 10pm on October 28 until the next morning around 2am. They were charged accordingly at Kempton Park Police Station and appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
On Friday, between 6pm and 10pm, on Piet my Vrou Street in Birch Acres, 13 drivers were caught driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
Again on Friday in Kempton Park CBD between 10pm and 2am, Long Street between Monument Road and Greyilla Street was cordoned off and buildings and shops searched for drugs, stolen vehicles and illegal firearms. Music equipment from three places, the shop at the corner of Long and Greyilla, the night club at the corner of Park and Jubilee streets as well as the night club at 17 Jubilee Street were confiscated as the shops were a source of public disturbance and peace.
During Operation Fiela, conducted at Winnie Mandela in Tembisa on Friday between midday and 9pm, 10 illegal shebeens were shut down, 16 undocumented persons arrested, two suspects arrested on possession of a stolen vehicle, one person arrested for possession of an illegal gambling machine and 363 cases of beer confiscated, Kgasago said.
