Man dies from mob justice

"When the police arrived at the scene they found the deceased had been beaten."

A group of about 100 people allegedly assaulted and killed a man in Ivory Park Extension 14 on Saturday.

The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Meldah Sekgobela, said the group allegedly accused the deceased of housebreaking and theft.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS, there was no case reported against the deceased.

“When the police arrived at the scene they found the deceased had been beaten. He was transported to hospital where he died on arrival,” said W/O Sekgobela.

“A case of murder has been opened and the SAPS is requesting anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the police.”

The Ivory Park SAPS is appealing to community members in Ivory Park to stop assaulting suspects as it is a criminal offence.

“People are advised to report any criminal activities to the police and wait for the law to take its course,” she said.
