Same robbers hit Isando station a fourth time

'I don’t know why police can’t nail these guys,' owner

AN Isando filling station on Industry Road has become a victim of armed robbery for the third time in four months, allegedly by the same group of criminals.

The third robbery to hit the Engen garage took place on Wednesday evening just after 7:30pm, said the owner, Clive Husband.

Husband, who is away in Jeffrey’s Bay, said the robbers had taken money, cigarettes and drinks.

“This time there were six of them, they also robbed a customer and took his wallet and cellphone,” said Husband.

In September EXPRESS published CCTV footage from the second robbery where the faces of the robbers are in clear view. The first robbery took place in August.

Husband said police were using the footage for their investigations,

“I don’t know why they can’t nail these guys. I’m getting worried that it might get violent and someone might get shot. This is getting too much. It’s almost Christmas. What’s going to happen then?” he asked.

The owner of the targeted filling station said the suspects were apparently known in the community. Manager of the station, Joseph Khumalo, who was on the scene at the time of the robbery confirmed this.

“It’s exactly the same guys. Four of them were armed. I was in the back and heard noises. When I peeped out I saw a man with a gun emptying out the tills,” explained Khumalo.

Khumalo said he remained in hiding until they had left.

“There were two cashiers at the tills when these six men came in. Four took out guns but I don’t know how many were armed.”

“The first time EXPRESS published the article, I heard community members saying the robbers were known in Kempton Park. The police should’ve found them by now,” pointed out Khumalo.

Another business robbery case has been opened with Kempton Park SAPS.

EXPRESS is still awaiting comment from the police.
