The Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 31-year-old man after he allegedly robbed a tavern owner of R10 000.
The robbery took place at around 1am on Monday.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said the victim alleged that his business was closed for the day.
“He was waiting for his cleaner to finish. He then went to the toilet which is outside his house. On his way, he was approached by three unknown men who threatened him with a firearm.
“The suspects searched his pockets and took R10 000 in cash,” said W/O Sekgobela.
W/O Sekgobela said the victim tried to fight the three men off, while screaming for help at the same time.
“Police officers, who were patrolling in the area, came to his rescue and found one suspect in possession of the tavern owner’s cash. His two accomplices managed to flee the scene.
“The police established that the firearm used in the robbery was a toy gun. The 31-year-old man was arrested and detained at the Ivory Park SAPS. A business robbery case was opened. He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said W/O Sekgobela.
