
KEMPTON Park made it to the top 10 lists for the most car thefts and truck hijackings the past year.
Topping the list for truck hijackings is Heidelberg (99), followed by Alberton (44), Olifantsfontein (32) and Kempton Park (29).

Kempton Park is 10th on the list for car theft with 537 reported cases, Benoni (540) is ninth and Alberton seventh (553).
The two top spots on this list were taken by Honeydew (764) and Roodepoort (718).
On top of the list for car hijackings is Booysens (220), followed by Chatsworth (188) and Jeppe (178). Tembisa is seventh on this list with 142 incidents.
The most recent crime data stats from the South African Police Service (SAPS) for 2015 shows that hijackings have increased in the country over the past year.
According to the police, there were 12 773 reported car hijackings between 2014/15, compared to 11 180 in 2013/14 – an increase from 31 to 35 incidents a day. This equates to one car being hijacked in South Africa every 41 minutes.
