Catching up VW Club’s Sijo in the latest edition of #Kasi Rides

This week we speak to Antony Sello "Sijo" Seale.

The Tembisan recently introduced #KasiRides, featuring locals and their eye-catching rides in the Tembisa area.

This week we speak to Antony Sello “Sijo” Seale.

Tembisan: Tell us about your car.

Sijo: I have a 1983 Volkswagen rabbit pick-up truck diesel (caddy).

Tembisan: Did you do any modifications on the car?

Sijo: Yes, it has a full velocity conversion, front exterior and interior with a leather razor design.

Tembisan: How long have had the car?

Sijo: Four years.

Tembisan: Why this car?

Sijo:Reliability, it is maintainable and it is a pick-up truck. I like to experiment and this car was the perfect machine for such a project.

Tembisan: You are heading the Volkswagen Club – tell us about the club.

Sijo: I am the founder and coordinator of the organisation, being the Tembisa VW Club (TVC). We are a non-profit organisation and the TVC was established in September 2012. It was formed by the youth, VW drivers and owners of Tembisa. Our club boasts over 25 beautiful, stance, and lowered flamed rides. The TVC does charity work, promotions and marketing services for both private groups and businesses, such as events and gigs, graduation ceremonies, wedding celebrations and birthday parties. The TVC has worked with the likes of DJ Shimza (OMS), Hlogi (Caprivi) Afro Jazz & Soul Festival, Bula Mahlo Orphanage, DJ Hlathi baby (Show your legs), GP & MP VW region, Tembisa TRD (Smovana Car show SABC1), Kasi my Kasi – the Tembisa documentary, Buss Life’s crew and the Miss Tembisa pageant. We have also worked with Zimbi events. As the TVC, we encourage the youth to study, pursue their dreams and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Tembisan: Who can join and how can they join the club?

Sijo: Anyone who owns and drives a VW car can join, provided they live in Tembisa or in the surrounding areas. We look for individuals who are willing to go the extra mile as far as charity goes, as we commit our private time to doing charity work. Those wanting to join can phone 073 309 1681.

Tembisan:What are the privileges to being a member?

Sijo: Overall, the TVC is a social organisation, therefore we have fun while giving back to the community. We assist and advise each other in terms of car issues. We are family-orientated and support each other and stick together as a family.

Tembisan: What will your next car be?

Sijo: Definitely a Volkswagen – it has to be a family car.

Tembisan: What is your advice to people who want to join the club?

Sijo: It has to come from your heart. Be prepared to travel as we do travel a lot to support other VW crews and clubs in Gauteng, and other provinces for fundraising.

Tembisan: What charity work has your club done?

Sijo: As an organisation, our mission is to educate the youth and the community about the effects of all forms of abuse in order to reduce it, therefore charity is part and parcel of the organisation’s goals. We work with the Bula Mahlo home for abandoned children based at Difateng Section in Tembisa. We donate food parcels, clothes, electric appliances and so forth. We support charity soccer tournaments and on Mandela Day this year, we worked with numerous Tembisa charity organisations. We have also been involved with the Alexander Bikers Club and charity work in Alex.

Tembisan: Do you see yourself selling the car at some point?

Sijo: That will depend on the offer I get – never say never. But honestly, I would love to keep this baby as one of my collections I have worked on.
