A female getaway car driver’s driving skills failed her when she tried to flee the scene of a house burglary in Birch Acres on Monday afternoon.
Speeding around a corner, she first hit a delivery man on his scooter before crashing into the perimeter wall of a property on the same street, which brought an end to her “daring escape” in a stolen vehicle.

The female suspect (30), described by an eyewitness as “tall and attractive”, was arrested at the corner of Makou and Pikkewyn streets at around 1.30pm. She will be charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, attempted house breaking and reckless and negligent driving.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the woman’s two male accomplices are still at large.
“MML Security received a Whatsapp message and responded to it. When they arrived on the scene, they saw a silver Chevrolet Avio parked in front of a house on Makou Street,” Molokomme explained.

“Two suspects were coming out the yard but when they saw MML, they ran back into the yard. The woman driving the vehicle sped off and MML followed her. A chase ensued. She disappeared around the corner and a big bang was heard,” he added.
Molokomme said the fleeing woman collided with a 34-year old McDonald’s delivery man on a bike. The man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Arwyp.
The female suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle and drove into the wall of a house on Pikkewyn Street.
A 37-year-old witness, who wished to remain anonymous, described the suspect as tall and beautiful. “She was ‘wow’, you would never think that she was involved in crime,” he said.
“After the collision she got out the car, threw a wheel spanner under it and just casually stood around at the scene. She then started walking away unnoticed, because MML Security was attending to the injured delivery man. She walked into one of the yards and jumped over the wall,” he told Express on the scene.
The witness said this was when he alerted the security company that a suspect was getting away. They chased after her and caught her in one of the yards.
Molokomme said the getaway vehicle had false registration plates. The witness said there were different number plates inside the car.
It is alleged that the vehicle had been involved in a house robbery three weeks ago on Dick Muller Street in Norkem Park but Molokomme could not confirm this.
“All we can confirm is that the vehicle was reported hijacked at Booysens Police Station in July. We will investigate whether it could be linked to other crimes in the area,” he said.
