TWO suspected car thieves have been arrested after a police chase in the CBD on Monday.
According to Kempton police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, at about 12.40pm, Sgt Thembisile Mgoro received information about two suspicious vehicles parked at the Garden Court Hotel on Hulley Road in Rhodesfield.

“On arrival he noticed the two vehicles, one a gold Polo with two occupants and the second, a maroon Toyota Etios, also with two occupants. When the occupants of the cars saw the police vehicle, both cars sped away and a chase ensued. Back-up was called,” Mtshali explained.
During the chase, the gold Polo sped away in the direction of Jet Park but police managed to pull over the Toyota on Pretoria Road next to the taxi rank.
“On searching the two suspects’ vehicle, a large variety of items were recovered, namely nine ignition switches, four car keys, five allen keys, three hand radios and three jamming devices.”
The two suspects, aged 40 and 32, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods and car breaking implements.
“Police will continue to search for the other vehicle and continue with investigations to establish whether the suspects are linked to various thefts of motor vehicles in the CBD and at hotels.”
