A thief was chased down by residents after he was allegedly caught stealing copper rods from their home on Tuesday afternoon.
The man was caught on Monument Road, just before the Kerk Street intersection, a few blocks from the house. The resident, who did not want to be named, said his wife spotted the suspect in their yard and alerted him.
The copper rods are suspected to be from their geyser.
Upon going to investigate, the thief ran away.

“My brother and I chased him down the road until we caught him,” the man’s brother told EXPRESS.
When EXPRESS arrived on the scene, the police had just arrived and the suspect was sitting on the ground with his hands tied behind his back with wire. He was bleeding from his left temple.
When EXPRESS questioned one of the men who had caught the suspect why he was bleeding, the man said, “The suspect tried to break free after we caught him.”
Kempton SAPS’ W/O Frans Mathole said a case of theft would be opened and the suspect would need to get medical attention before he was placed in a holding cell.
Police said they would first open a case at the station and then transport the suspect to hospital for treatment.
