Flying squad member arrests man with ammunition in CBD

The suspect, 32, will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate's Court

Benoni Flying Squad on Tuesday evening arrested a 32-year-old male for possession of ammunition.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton police, the suspect was arrested by a flying squad member at the corner of Monument Road and Voortrekker Street at about 6pm, while she patrolled the area.

“Benoni Flying Squad Sgt Lindiwe Dladla spotted a suspicious-looking person standing on the road. She approached the person and stopped her police vehicle,” Mtshali explained.

“The suspect suddenly dropped a plastic bag on the ground. The officer picked up the plastic bag and discovered it contained a firearm magazine loaded with ammunition.”

Dladla arrested the suspect for possession of ammunition and he will appear in court.
