A man who has been on the run since May 2014 was caught in Tembisa on Sunday.
The 38-year-old man, who worked for a company responsible for transporting large consignments of liquor, collaborated with some accomplices and staged the hijacking of his truck, which was carrying liquor valued at R1,5-million.
The crime took place in May 2014 and the case was registered at the Norkem Park SAPS.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, said the suspect, who had been on the run since, was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Tembisa by EMPD Loss Control Unit members.
“Information was received by the metro police that the suspect was attending a cultural event in Phomolong Section. The metro police closed in on the man and arrested him,” said Chief Supt Kgasago.
He said the 38-year-old suspect was taken to the Tembisa SAPS where he was subsequently picked up by Germiston SAPS Organised Crime Unit members.
“With the suspect now in police custody, the authorities believe more arrests will follow,” said Chief Supt Kgasago.
