Santa surprises Modderfontein residents
Dressed in an authentic Santa outfit, Mathew brought excitement and delight to a number of households in the area
Scuba diving instructor Mathew Clark assumed the role of Santa Clause at Christmas to deliver presents to children in Modderfontein.
Dressed in an authentic Santa outfit, Mathew brought excitement and delight to a number of households in the area with his jovial approach and a hearty “Ho, ho ho!”
Mathew was on holiday from his Thailand base to spend time with his mother, Noleen, in Lakeside Village in Modderfontein. It was she who suggested that he should embark on this initiative. He printed up some flyers and handed them out at the Lakeside and Thornhill Estate gates.
Ann Raats of Thornhill Manner Retirement Village in Lakeside jumped at the chance to surprise her two great grandchildren who were visiting from Hoedspruit. She arranged to have Mathew deliver presents to them on Christmas Day.
“The children could not believe their eyes when they saw Santa coming up the path,” she says. “Their squeals of sheer excitement were a real joy to all of us there.”
“The whole experience was magic,” says Mathew. “The two little boys had written thank you letters to Santa for the presents they had already received. They were beside themselves when they were able to hand them over personally. The letters were lovely and really moved me deeply.”
