Stassen murder trial: forensic tests on bloody blanket outstanding

The matter has been postponed to May 20

THE court should be ready to begin with the trial in the Annatjie Stassen murder case in May.

Gideon Stassen (43) and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Chantelle Justine Minnott, are accused of murdering Stassen’s 78-year-old mother Annatjie on November 16 last year.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton SAPS, the court is awaiting DNA results which should prove whether Stassen and Minnott are linked to Annatjie’s murder or not.

Results from forensic tests done on a blanket covered in blood, believed to be the same blanket used to wrap Annatjie’s body in, are outstanding, including investigations conducted at the scene where the body was recovered in Bronkhorstspruit.

The matter has been postponed to May 20 when all this evidence should be available.

The couple remains in custody.
