A Florida mother and her son (6) were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after hijackers crashed the car they were kidnapped in on Friday afternoon.
The woman’s other two children, aged 10 and nine months, as well as the three hijackers, were also injured after the hijacking at the Louis Botha and Barry Hertzog Road intersection.
Russel Meiring of ER24 said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived to find the hijackers had crashed the car into a bakkie towing a caravan.
A security company gave chase after the mother and her three children had been hijacked in their light motor vehicle. Some distance later, the driver lost control, causing the light motor vehicle to smash into the bakkie and caravan, Meiring said.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support treatment.
The mother was airlifted by the ER24 helicopter while her six-year-old boy was airlifted by another private helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
The three suspects were transported under police guard to Leratong Hospital.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigattions.
