Police seize fake goods worth R170 000

During the crime prevention operation, over 500 vehicles were tested for roadworthiness

KEMPTON Police, on Friday, confiscated counterfeit goods worth R170 000 and drugs worth R20 000 during a crime prevention operation in the Kempton CBD and surrounding areas.

The police were joined by Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department for the operation, which was conducted between 2pm and 10pm.

According to Kempton Police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the operation yielded positive results with arrests being made for drug dealing (three people arrested) and possession of drugs (one arrest).

One person will be facing fraud charges and seven illegal immigrants were also apprehended.

Police also seized 70 cellphones and secondhand goods.

Eight motorcycles with false engine numbers were found, 220 people and 88 vehicles were searched and 559 cars were tested for roadworthiness.

“These operations will continue until Kempton Park becomes a crime-free zone,” Mtshali added.
