Sir Pierre now has a functional SGB
'All we need is a strong partnership to keep the school in good records'

AFTER two months of meetings, trying to establish this year’s school governing body (SGB), Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School now has a fully functional and progress-driven SGB.
This group of energetic parents, teachers and learners is led by Peet Baartman, who served as deputy chairperson on the previous governing body.
“His re-election can only indicate how he is trusted by the stakeholders in taking the SGB and the school forward; he is a man with a great vision,” says Lesiba Molokomme, public relations committee chairperson and SGB deputy chairperson.

“During his inaugural speech, Mr Baartman said the SGB would ensure that the school was aligned with the GDE programmes and goals in achieving quality education and teaching. He will also encourage and strengthen the partnership among the stakeholders.
“We challenge all parents, learners and teachers to embrace this vision and help us to accomplish it.”
He says the SGB has the necessary skills and expertise: ”With this, nothing can stop us from taking the school to where it belongs – the top.”
The SGB believes learning starts at home and that a parent remains the primary teacher. It is for this reason that the board appeals to all parents to attend meetings when called and to make sure they show an interest in their children’s school activities.
Sir Pierre van Ryneveld was established in 1966. It is home to the Mirage III 3CZ jet fighter donated to the school by the South African Air Force and Denel in 1999.
The school has great and passionate teaching staff. Over the years the school has produced community leaders, professionals and business people. One of the youngest radio DJs, Thato Mofokeng, is a learner at the school.
“All we need is a strong partnership to keep the school in good records,” says Molokomme.
