A Nigerian national was arrested on Tuesday last week (April 19) for trying to bribe a police officer.
The 32-year-old suspect offered the officer R1 990 cash after he was arrested for being in possession of drugs.
According to the Kempton Police’s spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali, it was about 7.25am when a senior police captain of the Crime Prevention Unit conducted a routine stop and search operation on North Rand Road.

“Upon searching the suspect, the officer discovered about six pieces of rocks (drugs),” Mtshali said.
“During the arrest it is alleged the suspect offered the officer about R1 990 cash for his release and have his drugs returned to him, but the officer refused and instead arrested the suspect for possession of drugs and bribery.”
The suspect will appear in the magistrate’s court soon.
