Katlego Mohlala (22) was waiting for a taxi when the two men stopped and asked her where she was going.

“She said she’s going to Johannesburg and they offered her a lift, but when she got into the car, the passenger grabbed her phone and took out a knife. She was very fast and sprayed him and the driver with pepper spray and got out,” said spokesperson for Sebenza SAPS, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso.
When the driver took off an EMPD car passed by and Mohlala was able to get their attention. They chased the Kia all the way to Green Avenue and managed to stop the suspects between Esther Park and Barnard Stadium.
The arresting officers were Const Philani Ntshangase and Const Frans Molamedi from EMPD Edleen.
Mohlala’s phone was recovered and she did not sustain any injuries.
“We urge people who live in the Cresslawn area who were robbed by two men the past month to come to the station. We think these men are the same two who are connected to more than 30 robberies with the same modus operandi of giving ‘lifts’ to women waiting for a taxi.”
