Funds raised for school shoes

The initiative is aimed at raising money to buy school shoes for needy children in Tembisa schools.

The Dladla Foundation hosted a Schul Shuz Gala Dinner at Emporor’s Palace on June 10.

The Gauteng education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, mayors from different municipalities and corporate sponsors graced the event to support the initiative of providing school shoes for children who cannot afford any.

The initiative is aimed at raising money to buy school shoes for needy children in Tembisa schools.

Busani Dladla, the project’s coordinator, said corporate sponsors paid R10 000 for a table at the gala dinner.

“Individuals and families paid R1 000 for a seat,” said Ms Dladla.

The Bekezela Arts exhibitors auctioned artwork in support of the initiative.

Other items were also auctioned to raise money for the good cause.

Ms Dladla said the foundation, established by Mr Sipho Dladla, seeks to address all the basic needs of school pupils.

“Schools themselves told us which children needed the shoes,” she said.

She said the event was a success and from the proceeds raised on the night, they will be distributing 600 pairs of shoes.

“We want to thank all sponsors who bought the tables as well as individuals and families,” said Ms Dladla.

This is going to be an annual event for pupils who are in dire need for school shoes.
