Community catches suspected rapist

"The victim screamed for help and the suspect was cornered by the community."

A 20-year-old man was apprehended for rape by community members of Winnie Mandela on July 2.

Constable Patricia Mgijima said the suspect allegedly raped and robbed a woman who was collecting bottles for recycling.

“It is believed the suspect threatened the woman with a knife, ordered her to take her clothes off and raped her. He then ran away with her cellular phone.

“The victim screamed for help and the suspect was cornered by the community. The SAPS was informed,” said Const Mgijima.

She said a case of rape and robbery was opened against the suspect.

“He will be appearing before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of rape and robbery.”
