Three arrested for stealing cigarettes worth R200 000

The police managed to arrest three of the suspects while one managed to escape

AT midday on Friday, Sebenza SAPS arrested three suspects for possession of stolen cigarettes.

The three were found in possession of 439 boxes of various cigarettes worth R200 000.

According to Norkem Park acting spokesman, W/O Mahlodi Langa, the suspects, aged 25, 32 and 41, were arrested on the corner of Offeua and Nuwejaarsvoël streets in Chloorkop.

“Const Molomo and Const Mubali received a lookout from 10111 of a suspicious white Quantum, registration B 253 VX GP in Rabie Ridge, but on their way there they spotted the vehicle on Hunter Street in Chloorkop and gave chase,” explained Langa.

Police cornered the vehicle and when it came to a halt, four suspects jumped out and fled in different directions.

“The police managed to arrest three of the suspects while one managed to escape,” he explained.

They briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing a charge of possession of stolen goods on Monday.
