Man arrested for lying to SAPS

A man was arrested in Tembisa for lying to the police.

A man from Tswelapele Section in Ivory Park was arrested by the Tembisa SAPS for lying under oath.

Constable Patricia Mgijima said the 38 year old went to the police station on June 22 at 6:50pm to report a case of armed robbery.

“On July 10, a 34-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in a fight at Xubeni Section in Tembisa,” said Constable Mgijima.

“As the police were circulating the firearm, they noticed it is the same firearm that was previously reported as stolen, as the serial number was not filed off. The suspect was called in to the police station and he admitted to lying under oath, as he was not robbed of his firearm in an armed robbery. He claimed it was stolen by the 34-year old-man since he was the only person he was with in the car and his firearm was in the glove box,” said Constable Mgijima.

“Both suspects will appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of perjury and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition respectively.
