Birchleigh North resident hijacked by five armed men

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Tembisa

THE car of a Birchleigh North resident, who was hijacked on Friday morning, was later recovered in Tembisa.

According to Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, the owner was accosted at 430am by five gunmen who were in three vehicles. “The perpetrators of this crime were travelling in a green Nissan Sentra, a white Opel Corsa and black Nissan NP200,” he said.

His VW Golf was forcefully taken from him at gunpoint. Fortunately, the victim was not hurt.

Information of the hijacked vehicle was dispatched around 5.50am by the vehicle tracking company and on receipt, the metro police members jumped into action. The vehicle’s movements were monitored as it repeated around Ivory Park towards Tembisa.

“The metro police closed in on the vehicle and it was found abandoned in Tembisa at 6.20am. The vehicle had no visible damage and after formalities were conducted, it was taken to the police pound in Benoni. In-depth investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits,” Kgasago said.
