Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said the vehicle was stolen at 11am. The signal on the hijacked vehicle disappeared for lengthy periods until it re-emerged around 6pm on the same day.
“On re-emergence of the signal, Netstar sent out the lookout with information of its movements which were on the R23 in the Kempton Park area.
“The metro police, upon receiving the GPS coordinates, tracked the vehicle to the R23 where it was found abandoned with its load of cigarettes, valued at R15 000, missing,” Kgasago said.
The case was registered at Kempton Park Police Station and the recovered vehicle taken to the police pound in Benoni.
