Arrests follow high-speed chase through Van Riebeeck Park

The four were later arrested by police at the Marlboro Gautrain station

FOUR men were arrested while driving a stolen vehicle with stolen goods following a high-speed chase with PHS COPS, now known as Super Cops.

The arrests were made at around 10.30am near the Marlboro Gautrain Station on Wednesday, July 27.

Cops area manager, Carl Buys, said one of their clients had pressed a panic button at around 8am after spotting a suspicious-looking vehicle circling Bosloerie Street in Van Riebeeck Park.

“The vehicle matched the description of a lookout that had been sent out for a champagne-coloured Kia sedan with false number plates and four males. Reaction officer Cobus Heymans called me and went to investigate but did not find anything. He then decided to patrol Blouberg Street and that was when he saw the said vehicle in a yard, with the suspects loading goods. He made a U-turn,” explained Buys.

According to acting Norkem Park SAPS spokesman W/O Mahlodi Langa, the complainant/victim was fixing his computer in the house when he saw a man outside his yard.

“One suspect ordered him not to make a sound while pointing a firearm at him. The other suspects then came in and told the victim they needed stuff in the house,” explained Langa.

They continued to load two computers, an external hard drive, a jacket and his house keys, all valued at around R25 000.

While loading the goods into the car, the suspects spotted officer Heymans, and one of the men pointed a firearm at him. He retaliated with fire and a high-speed chase ensued.

“The chase continued right through Van Riebeeck Park onto the P91 but we lost them in Tembisa. By then a call had been put through to the police.”

The four were later arrested by police at the Marlboro Gautrain station.
