Thief caught after wife recognises husband’s stolen clothes

The thief was trying to sell the clothes he had just stolen

A housebreaker was caught out after a woman saw him trying to sell her husband’s stolen clothes.

The woman recognised the clothing while walking down Central Avenue in Kempton on Tuesday afternoon last week.

According to Kempton police, the 23-year-old suspect had earlier stolen the clothes after breaking into the couple’s Maxwell Street home.

“The wife spotted the man selling her husband’s clothes that were stored in the garage. She called her husband, who was at home at the time, and asked him to check the garage,” police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, said.

Her husband found that indeed the padlock on the garage door had been broken and clothes were missing.

“The police were called to the scene at about 2pm and the suspect was arrested. He will appear in court for housebreaking.”
