THE mutilated body of a newborn baby was found at Kempton Park Golf Course on Monday evening.
The tiny body was discovered by one of the workers at the golf course around the area at the fourth tee box by the river bank.
“Crocodile” (his nickname) was doing his usual rounds collecting golf balls when he came across the horrific scene. Showing EXPRESS where he made the discovery, Crocodile pointed at the exact spot, recounting the story.
“That’s where the body was lying. Its right arm and leg were cut off and it lay on its right-hand side. The head was facing towards where I was standing,” Crocodile said.
Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, said the body had started to decompose by the time it was discovered, although Ntladi said it was the right hand and left foot that were amputated. The baby’s private parts were also missing.
“The body apparently flushed down the river and when the water level dropped, the body appeared. It was already in decomposition stage,” Ntladi mentioned.
“Declaration documents were issued and the scene was immediately handed over to the police and a forensic pathologist for removal and investigations.”
It is unclear at this stage why the body was mutilated.
Kempton Police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, confirmed that an inquest docket was opened and police were investigating the matter.
