Man followed from bank, held at gunpoint for R8 000

He was followed from Benoni to Pomona where he was robbed by three armed men

POLICE are investigating a case of armed robbery after a man was followed home from a bank and robbed at gunpoint on Friday.

The three armed robbers allegedly monitored the victim from a Standard Bank branch in Benoni, where the victim had withdrawn R8 000.

The robbers, travelling in a dark Mercedes Benz, followed close behind their target until they finally cornered him on Deodar Street in Pomona.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the incident occurred at about 2.45pm.

“The male victim said he noticed the dark Mercedes Benz pull up in front of his car. One of the robbers emerged from the vehicle, went straight to him and pointed a firearm at him,” Mtshali said.

The thief demanded the R8 000 cash he had withdrawn earlier.

Helpless, the man handed over the money and the robbers fled the scene.
