Heavy delays on N1 expected after shootout

One suspect was shot in the chest and was in a critical condition

Motorists can expect heavy delays on the N1 north and south this afternoon as a result of a shootout between police and fleeing suspects.

Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said the company’s paramedics drove onto the shooting incident on the N1 north towards the Buccleuch interchange in Sunninghill.

“It’s believed the police were chasing a vehicle involved in a house robbery in Roodekrans when the suspects opened fire. A shootout between police and the suspects ensued, which resulted in the two suspects being shot,” Cohen said.

One suspect was shot in the chest and was in a critical condition, requiring advanced life support care. The second suspect sustained only minor injuries.

Motorists can expect heavy delays on the N1 north and south between Rivonia and the Buccleuch interchange for most of the afternoon due to ongoing police investigations.
