Critical child (4) airlifted after Allandale Road accident

Seven people were injured in the collision between a car and bakkie

A four-year-old child was airlifted to hospital after sustaining critical injuries in an accident on Allandale Road on Saturday afternoon just before 4pm

Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said paramedics found seven people had been injured when a bakkie and car collided.

“A four-year-old was assessed and was found to have sustained critical injuries, including serious head and abdominal trauma. Paramedics worked to stabilise the critically injured child, who was intubated and put on a ventilator while the Netcare911 Aeromedical Helicopter was called to the scene,” Cohen said.

Once stable, the child was airlifted to a specialist trauma hospital for further management.

The remaining six patients sustained only minor to moderate injuries and were transported by Emer-G-Med and other services to a variety of nearby facilities for further care.

The exact cause of the collision is unclear and will be investigated by local authorities.
