Madelakufa families benefit from community clothing donation drive
NPO collects clothes and gives is to the needy in Thembisa.
Thalukanyo Dza Vhathu NPO, led by Nonhlanhla Maphangula, has extended a helping hand to vulnerable households in Madelakufa, Thembisa, by donating 30 bags of second-hand clothing to community members in need.
Maphangula collected the donated clothes at its community hub before distributing them to identified beneficiaries.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with McDonald’s Barber, who regularly partners with the organisation by providing haircuts to children during its community outreach programmes.

Through its partnerships with local street committees, the NPO can identify households and areas where assistance is most needed, helping ensure donations reach the intended beneficiaries.
Maphangula said unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges facing families in Thembisa and continues to motivate the organisation’s efforts to support struggling households.
“One of the biggest challenges facing these families is unemployment. Our government needs to reconsider its employment strategies and create better opportunities, including ways of accommodating older people.
“When you look at the challenges faced by households, you have to ask what permanent solutions can be introduced to ensure that all learners have equal opportunities.

“We also advocate for learners to attend school so that they can change their circumstances and break the cycle of generational unemployment,” she said.
Maphangula said the latest clothing donation was made possible through the generosity of community members who responded to the organisation’s request for assistance.
“We put out a post asking for donations, and the response from different community members was very positive. We do not limit ourselves to specific areas; we assist different sections of the community,” she added. Looking ahead, Maphangula said the NPO hoped to expand its support initiatives during December and January, with a particular focus on helping learners prepare for the new school year.
“We want to continue working towards ensuring that no child goes to school without a uniform, stationery or food. We are hoping to receive more donations.
“We are also preparing to introduce new programmes for December and January, as these are crucial months for learners. We want to help dress them appropriately so that they feel welcomed and have the confidence they need,” she said.
